To the right after crossing Saigawa Ohashi Bridge, a street
leads up to Uhoin Temple where you can see letters and other
memorabilia of Saisei Muro, the poet and novelist. A week after his birth in 1889, Saisei Muro (1889-1962) was adopted by this temple's priest and he spent his childhood here. In the yard is a stone erected in 1827, a period of famine, inviting people to bring abandoned or starving children to the temple, where they would be cared for. |
