Up the winding road to Mount Utatsu from Tenjinbashi Bridge over the Asano river is a great stone slab, known as the Kyoka Izumi Monument.   Kyoka Izumi, a novelist, was born and brought up near the Asanogawa River and frequently drew on these memories for his stories' themes.   A poem engraved on this monument shows Izumi's longing for his mother, who died when he was eleven.
