Kinjo Reitaku, adjoining Kanazawa Shrine, is a miraculous spring dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, a revered scholar.
It is also called "Kane-arai Zawa" (the Stream to Wash Gold), and this is said to be the origin of the name "Kanazawa".

Once upon a time, there was an honest young man, Togoro, who made his living by washing yams. One day the daughter of a rich inhabitant of the village came to him, and insisted that she would marry him because she had a divine revelation in a dream. Togoro was tired of the gold dust that was deposited in the stream every time he washed yams. His new wife told him how valuable gold was. Subsequently, each day, Togoro would dig up yams, wash the gold from them, and collect it, and so they became very wealthy.

Although this is a simple, quiet spot with a small roof, the spring is still beautiful.
