The Ishikawa Prefectural Museum, adjoining Kenrokuen Garden, is a so-called "sanctuary of beauty", and is typical of the buildings in Ishikawa Prefecture. The simple, white brick building contains many large exhibition rooms.
The exhibition on permanent display includes various arts and crafts, ranging from old Kutani to items passed down through the Maeda family, the Lord of Kaga, as well as modern works related to Ishikawa Prefecture. In addition, many special exhibitions are held throughout the year.
Items in the collection include the "Iroe Kiji Koro" (the Colored Pheasant Incense Burner) by Nonomura Ninsei, designated a national treasure, and the "Shiki Kosaku-zu Byobu" (the Four Seasons Farming Folding Screen) by Kusumi Morikage, an important cultural asset.
