Located in a long-time busy section of town called Musashigatsuji,
Omicho Market has been supporting the people of Kanazawa by providing
foodstuffs and more for the feudal lords and citizens for about 270 years.
At the 200 shops lining along the narrow streets, fish from the Japan
Sea, local vegetables, fruits, pickled vegetables, fried foods, sweets,
flowers, clothes, and all sorts of things are being sold among high-spirited
shouts.
Seafood that is in season will be found amazingly cheap and
fresh. There are many types of seafood available all year round, and there
are many reasonably-priced restaurants serving fresh fish dishes within
the market itself. Sweet shrimp and crab are especially delicious in winter.
You can ask for a styrofoam box to take the fish home in or it can be
sent anywhere within Japan, so you can shop without reservation. |
